About the role
Position Summary
- A Buyer/purchasing in manufacturing coordinates material requirements, capacity, and scheduling to meet customer demand while optimizing inventory levels.
- They create production schedules, monitor progress, manage inventory, and collaborate with procurement/logistics to prevent shortages and ensure timely delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Production Scheduling: Develop weekly/monthly production plans and schedules, aligning manufacturing activities with sales forecasts and customer demand.
- Inventory Optimization: Analyze inventory levels to ensure optimal stock, reducing excess while preventing shortages of raw materials and finished goods.
- MRP/ERP Management: Utilize ERP/MRP systems (e.g., SAP, MES) to release manufacturing orders and manage inventory records.
- Material Coordination: Collaborate with procurement to align material availability with production schedules.
- Troubleshooting: Monitor production progress and adjust schedules to accommodate maintenance, machine downtime, or changing demand.
- Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve production efficiency, reduce waste, and improve KPIs (e.g., on-time delivery).
Additional Information
- Compensation range and bonus eligibility: $55,000–$65,000/year; eligible for bonus programs, with payouts expected in February/March 2027.
- Job grade, reporting context, or other screening-relevant logistics: Current employee is retiring at the end of 2026. The position is focused on purchasing and scheduling for the production floor and will operate as a one-person function within a 12-person organization. Purchasing includes suppliers in the USA and China, with approximately 2–3 shipping containers received annually.
Qualifications
- Technical Proficiency: Strong proficiency in ERP/MRP systems (like SAP or Oracle) and MS Excel/SQL.
- Experience: 3–5 years of experience as a buyer and purchasing.
- Skills: Strong communication, analytical, and organizational skills, along with proactive problem-solving abilities.

- 3–5 years of experience in buyer and purchasing functions.
- Strong proficiency with ERP/MRP systems.
- Strong proficiency with MS Excel/SQL.
- Experience with purchasing and production-related scheduling, including lead times, payments, air shipping, and working with distributors.
